Align and evenly space devices on a floor plan

Tidy up, align and space evenly in one click, so the plan gets to your client sooner.

Where it helps

Arrange a row of speakers, keypads or other devices so the drawing is easier to read. Alignment changes the layout; check device locations against the installation requirements before issuing the plan.

What changed

  • Icons snap into equal spacing while you place or drag them.
  • Align two or more selected devices; Space evenly needs at least three. Tidy up and the alignment controls are in Properties and the right-click Arrange menu.
  • Each step is one undo.

Use it on your next plan

  1. Select two or more devices and use the alignment controls in Properties or the right-click Arrange menu. On a tablet, hold a finger on the selection to open that menu.
  2. Use Space evenly with three or more devices to retain the outermost positions and distribute the devices between them, or Tidy up to straighten a rough group into rows and columns.
  3. Review the result at the drawing’s scale. Each action is one undo, and Smart alignment can help place the next device at the existing gap.

Laying out a row of speakers usually means nudging each one until it looks even. I'll drop three in-ceiling speakers on the porch, roughly in a row. And two keypads, for later.

Select the row, and press Tidy up. One click, and they're straight and evenly spaced. Drag one more toward the end. It snaps to the row's line, and to the same spacing. Select all four, Tidy up again, and the row stretches to fit.

Two keypads: Align top, and they sit on one line. Over on the landscape speakers, the gaps are uneven. Select them, and Space evenly fixes it.

Each step is one undo. And it's all in the right-click menu too, under Arrange. Spend less time lining things up, and get the plan to your client sooner. Try it on your next project.
