Planning
Create a low voltage plan from a PDF floor plan
Import and scale a floor plan, place numbered devices, prepare trade views and check the installation drawing before exporting it.
Start with a scaled drawing and a clear scope
A useful low voltage plan connects each device’s location and label to the information the installer needs. In Integrator Design Studio, import the floor plan, set its scale, place the devices, review their cabling and prepare the views and outputs for each trade.
Before drawing, identify the rooms, systems, racks or panels and required deliverables. Agree whether the job also needs rack elevations, signal-flow diagrams, engineering review or controller programming; those are separate from this floor-plan workflow.
1. Import the page you need
Open the project’s sheet and click an empty area. In Properties → Sheet → Blueprints, choose Add blueprint, or drop the file onto the sheet. Use a PDF, PNG or JPEG. Export a DWG sheet to PDF first.
For a multi-page PDF, choose the page number. Only that selected page is saved to the project. Add another blueprint for another drawing, or create another sheet when it needs its own page. Position and size the blueprint before setting its scale.
2. Set the scale from a known dimension
With nothing selected, choose Properties → Sheet → Set scale. Click two points whose real distance is known, enter that distance with its units and confirm the interpretation shown by the app before saving.
For example, use an architect’s dimension line rather than estimating the width of a doorway. A scale belongs to its blueprint; when a sheet contains several blueprints, set the scale for the relevant one. Check the result against another known dimension before relying on lengths or coverage drawings.
Once the scale is set, the blueprint’s rooms can be found too: Prepare blueprint → Rooms lets AI find the rooms, walls, doors and windows, or you draw them by hand. Each device then shows its room, and the cable schedule can list a section per room.
Set or correct a blueprint’s scale and see how rooms are found on a blueprint
3. Place devices and check their details
Work room by room through the systems in scope: speakers, displays, lighting controls, shades, cameras, network devices and other supported symbols. Automatic numbering keeps each device identifiable, and the Equipment panel updates its counts.
Select a device to check its variant, mounting and rack or panel assignment. Read its cabling details before treating the drawing as ready for pre-wire. Use the equipment and cable schedule guide to reconcile quantities and review estimated or measured lengths.
For common placement tasks, see gang boxes for wall controls and aligning and spacing devices.
Control4, Crestron and Savant installations can involve these physical layouts. Their controller configuration and programming still take place in the appropriate platform tools.
4. Organize a busy plan with Views
When equipment, cabling and notes make a project hard to navigate, create a View that shows what you need for the task. It presents the same floor plan and equipment with your chosen systems and level of detail. You might focus on camera coverage, Wi-Fi or wiring details; these are flexible choices, not fixed View types.
In Views, choose New view and give it a useful name. Its current sheets start included, with systems and details hidden. Choose the systems, annotations, coverage fields, cable cards and work statuses that should show. Each View edits the same plan, so moving a device changes its position everywhere.
Owners and Editors use the sheet eyes in Views or Share to choose the presentation and PDF pages. Before issuing the drawing, check that each page contains the intended systems and notes.

5. Review the drawing you will issue

Open Share, review the presentation pages and choose PDF. A public share link is not required to download a PDF. Check the title block, page order, legend, selected views and any included schedules.
- Can the installer match every required device to its location and tag?
- Do the sheets show the intended scale, project details and revision?
- Have routes, lengths and installation requirements been checked against the site?
- Do the equipment list, cable schedule and conduit schedule cover the selected sheets, systems and views?
Keep the issued version and record subsequent changes. The field notes and as-built guide explains how to bring those changes into the handoff.
